Who you’re dealing with

Granny is made by Addison Fuller. It’s a small operation — there is no data team, no advertising business, and nobody whose job is to find new things to do with what you write.

What we keep

When you make an account and start cooking, we store:

• Your email address, so you can sign in and so we can send you a code when you need one.
• What you tell us about yourself — a display name, a username, a short bio, a profile photo, a cover photo. All of it optional except a name of some kind.
• How you cook — any dietary needs, allergies, dislikes, and how many people you usually cook for.
• What you make — your recipes, your cookbook and collections, your conversations with Granny, and the notes and photos you add after cooking something.
• A record of your use of the AI features, so we can keep the service running and stop it being abused.

We never see your password. Sign-in is handled by Supabase, our infrastructure provider, and your password is stored by them in a form we cannot read.

If you skip the name field when you sign up, your display name is currently taken from the part of your email address before the “@”. That name is visible to other people using Granny. We are changing this — but while it is true, it is worth knowing, and you can set a different name at any time in Settings.

What Granny sends to the AI

Granny’s answers come from a large language model run by xAI. She is not a person and there is no way to talk to her without something being sent there. This is the one place your words travel, so here is exactly what goes:

• The message you typed, and the conversation it belongs to.
• Any photo you attach to a message.
• The recipe you’re discussing, when you’re asking about one.
• Four things from your profile, and only four: your dietary needs, your allergies, your dislikes, and your household size. They’re sent so she doesn’t suggest something that would hurt you or that you’d never eat.

Your name, your email address, your username and your photo are never sent to the AI. When you’re cooking a recipe step by step, less is sent again — only your allergies.

If you ask Granny about something on the web, or paste a link, the relevant part of that page or search may also be sent so she can answer about it.

Requests reach xAI through our own server, never from your phone directly. Your use of Granny is governed by xAI’s handling of that data once it arrives.

What other people using Granny can see

Granny is built around cooks sharing food, so some of what you make is visible to other people using the app.

Visible to other people using Granny: your profile, your recipes, your cookbook and collections, and your cooking notes.

Private to you: your conversations with Granny, and your email address.

Photos

Photos you add — to a recipe, to your profile, to a conversation — are stored at a public web address. The address is long and isn’t guessable, but anyone who has it can open the photo without signing in to Granny. Please don’t put anything in a photo you would mind a stranger seeing.

Location data is removed from every photo before it leaves your phone. We never receive the coordinates of where a picture was taken, or the camera details attached to it.

Email

We send two kinds of email and no others: a code to confirm your address when you sign up, and a link when you ask to reset your password. Email is delivered by Resend, who receive your email address in order to send it. There is no newsletter and no marketing email.

Where it all lives

Granny’s database, sign-in system and file storage are run by Supabase, hosted in the United States (Oregon). If you’re using Granny from outside the United States, that is where your information is kept.

What we don’t do

This list is short and we intend to keep it that way. Granny contains:

• No advertising, and no ad networks.
• No analytics. We do not measure how you move through the app.
• No crash or performance reporting.
• No tracking across other apps or websites. Granny does not ask for permission to track you, because there is nothing to ask for.
• No location services.
• No data brokers. We have never sold information about you and have no plans to. If that ever changes, it would need your consent first, and we would rather it simply never changed.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from Settings, under Account. We would rather tell you exactly what that does than say “everything is removed.”

Deleted: your recipes, collections, conversations with Granny, cooking notes and history, your preferences, and who you follow.

Anonymized: your profile record stays, with your name, email and photos stripped out of it, so that recipes other cooks saved from you don’t break.

Kept: a minimal sign-in record and a dated note that the account was deleted, which includes your email address. We keep these to resolve payment disputes and to prove a deletion happened if anyone ever asks. They are not readable by anyone using the app.

Not yet deleted: photos you uploaded. Right now, deleting your account removes the recipes and notes that pointed at your photos, but the image files themselves stay in storage and remain reachable by anyone holding the direct address. This is a gap we are closing, and we would rather say so here than let you assume otherwise. If you want your photos gone before then, write to us at the address below and we will remove them by hand.

Children

Granny isn’t built for children and we don’t knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. We don’t ask your age, so if a child has made an account, please write to us and we will remove it.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy of it, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Depending on where you live you may have these rights in law; we intend to honor them either way. Write to us and a person will answer.

When this changes

We will update the date at the top of this page whenever this policy changes. If a change is significant — if something new starts leaving the app, for instance — we will tell you in the app rather than quietly editing this page.
